42وَلَقَد أَرسَلنا إِلىٰ أُمَمٍ مِن قَبلِكَ فَأَخَذناهُم بِالبَأساءِ وَالضَّرّاءِ لَعَلَّهُم يَتَضَرَّعونَT. B. Irving(V) We sent [word] to nations before you and seized them with suffering and hardship so that they might act submissively.
