42وَلَقَد أَرسَلنا إِلىٰ أُمَمٍ مِن قَبلِكَ فَأَخَذناهُم بِالبَأساءِ وَالضَّرّاءِ لَعَلَّهُم يَتَضَرَّعونَHamid AzizEre this We sent unto nations before you, and We sent them distress and adversity that per chance (or possibly) they might humble themselves.
